Spring Activities at AlmaVia of San Rafael

Blooming flowers and trees mark the beginning of spring here at AlmaVia of San Rafael, and spring also represents a busy time for community partnerships and upcoming events.

Webelos Scout Visit

On April 30 at 2 p.m., members of a local Cub Scout pack will visit AlmaVia of San Rafael. The group of Scouts, who are 9 and 10 years old, will work with community residents to pot plants in celebration of Earth Day and Arbor Day.

The boys are members of a “Webelos” Scout group, which stands for “We’ll Be Loyal Scouts.” Webelos prepares boys in 4th and 5th grades to become Boy Scouts by participating in a variety of projects and learning skills related to the outdoors. As they gain experience, Scouts gain maturity and prowess in decision-making.

Cinco de Mayo

On May 5, residents will celebrate Cinco de Mayo, the anniversary of the Mexican Army defeating the French in the 1862 Battle of Puebla.

In the United States, we commemorate the day as a time to recognize the contributions of Mexican culture and heritage to our country. We hope you can join us for our Cinco de Mayo event.

Alzheimer’s Association Presentation

On May 11 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., AlmaVia of San Rafael will host a presentation by the Alzheimer’s Association.

Alzheimer’s is a brain disease that causes challenges with cognition, behavior and memory. Many people believe that it’s normal to have memory problems as they age, but Alzheimer’s becomes progressively worse and is not a normal consequence of aging.

Individuals with Alzheimer’s can exhibit a wide array of symptoms. If you have a family member with Alzheimer’s, you may notice forgetfulness in the early stages of the disease. As the disease progresses, you may notice that your family member misplaces belongings, becomes lost even in familiar areas, and has increasing problems with word finding and communication.
