The Villa at San Mateo has been selected to the Circle of Community Elevators by Abode Services.
Abode Services was founded in 1989 in Alameda and is one of the largest and most effective Bay Area nonprofits. The agency uses evidence-based approaches to end homelessness but said its efforts would fall short without the participation of landlord partners like The Villa at San Mateo who provide units of housing for individuals and families looking for a place to plant their feet and have a fresh start.
Abode Services’ mission is to end homelessness by assisting low-income, un-housed people, including those with special needs, to secure stable, supportive housing, and to be advocates for the removal of the causes of homelessness.
As a Circle of Community member, The Villa of San Mateo is one of the partners who house at least five program households. By doing this, The Villa at San Mateo helps Abode sustain and expand its programs to service more families and individuals in need each year.
The Villa at San Mateo is able to work with the agency on reducing the number of homeless people in the Bay area, which is part of the mission of Elder Care Alliance and its communities like The Villa at San Mateo.
Abode Services does what it takes to help people experiencing homelessness get back on their feet. This includes:
- Working with landlords to open up the rental market
- Managing government rental assistance programs
- Providing case management services to ensure people can maintain housing
- Building new housing stock
“When landlords partner with us, they reap the rewards of doing good for their community and also see a return on their investments,” Louis Chicoine, Abode Services Executive Director said.
