Brain Awareness Month: Guide for 2025

As more people receive a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, the impact of these conditions grows. Brain Awareness Month is an excellent opportunity to learn more about these conditions and recognize caregivers. Now is a great time to gather your tools to raise awareness of these devastating conditions.

When Is Brain Awareness Month?

June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month, the most widely recognized brain awareness month on the calendar. You will find ample opportunities to learn about brain health and disorders during this month. It is also a prime time for fundraising for organizations like the Alzheimer’s Association, who conduct research into possible paths to a cure.

Special Brain Health Awareness Months and Days

Some of the other days, weeks, and months designated to increase awareness of brain health include:

  • March: Brain Injury and Brain Tumor Awareness Month
  • March 9-15, 2025: Brain Awareness Week
  • May: Brain Cancer Awareness Month
  • June: Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month
  • September 21: World Alzheimer’s Day

Many medical centers, nursing homes, senior centers, and memory care facilities have special educational programs during these times.

How Can I Honor Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month?

You have many options to celebrate and honor Brain Awareness Month in June. Consider these ideas to get started.

Advocate for Research

Research funding is dwindling across virtually all fields, so every voice advocating for it has the power to make a difference. Contact your elected officials and share your views on the value of Alzheimer’s research. Let them know why it is important to increase brain damage awareness and fund projects that support a cure.

Wear Purple

Purple is the official Alzheimer’s awareness color, so June is a great time to break out those purple clothes and accessories. If that seems too over the top, add a purple ribbon, pin, or flower to your normal clothes to show your support.

Learn About Brain Health

Understanding brain health is one of the keys to reducing stigma about dementia and other disorders. Read up about the topic, attend presentations, or share educational resources with friends and family to help break through barriers to understanding. Are you thinking about memory care for a parent? June is a great time to tour a facility and ask questions about services.

Raise Funds

Raising a donations can help to recognize Brain Awareness Month.

June is a major fundraising month for brain health. Join a fundraiser in your community to help fund vital research. If there are no local events, consider joining a virtual one or starting your own.

Show Your Appreciation to a Caregiver

If you know someone who cares for a loved one with dementia, take time to offer them support and show your appreciation. Doing something like offering to fill in and do brain exercises with their family member, so they can go grab a cup of coffee and recharge, can be a big relief.
