Mercy Brown Bag Director Wins Jefferson Award

The two words “thank you” are not enough to express the gratitude thousands of East Bay seniors and we at Elder Care Alliance have for the Mercy Brown Bag Program and its director, Krista Lucchesi.

Lucchesi and Brown Bag provides more than a million pounds of groceries to low-income older adults across Alameda County. Since the pandemic, the amount of those seniors facing food insecurity ballooned to more than 8,000. But, that didn’t stop Lucchesi from making sure those in need had help. That work makes her more than deserving of receiving the San Francisco Bay Area Jefferson Award.

Established in 1972 by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, the Jefferson Award is considered the Nobel Prize for public service. It recognizes people who make a difference daily in their local communities—unsung heroes who do extraordinary things without the expectation of recognition or award.

Congratulations, Krista and the whole Mercy Brown Bag team, for your work and dedication to the Bay Area and Alameda County seniors.
