Agenda

10:00 am: Welcome and Introduction

10:15 am – 11:00 am: Dementia 101: Understanding the Brain & Means of Communication

Includes an overview of the disease process and the different ways the brain is affected. We will also examine the role of the physical environment and suggest ways to maximize independence and reduce feelings of anxiety and confusion. In addition we’ll discuss how to use language, tone of voice and nonverbal communication to foster understanding.

11:00 am – 11:15 am: Coffee, Tea & Light Refreshments

11:15 am – Noon: Change Your Thinking for Meaningful Relationships

This portion of the workshop will emphasize the importance of being “present” with both ourselves and others. When we let go of expectations and stop trying to control the person living with dementia, we can experience the gifts of authentic relationships.
