The Villa at San Mateo Promotes Holistic Wellness During Active Aging Week

Staying active can mean many different things as we age. To some people, active aging is keeping physically fit and eating in a healthful manner. To others, getting together with friends or engaging in intellectual pursuits may represent the ideal of an active life.

Active Aging Week is Sept. 24 through 30, and it’s the perfect time to consider exactly what aging well entails for you and how you can best engage in an active lifestyle.

The International Council of Active Aging began recognizing Active Aging Week as a way to promote healthy aging across the country. The goal of the campaign is to provide older adults with the tools and motivation to experience the many benefits of exercise and other healthy activities.

The organizers of Active Aging Week also seek to change society’s expectations by proving that older adults can lead full lives in every realm, including the physical, social, spiritual, emotional and intellectual.

Active Aging at The Villa at San Mateo

As an Elder Care Alliance community, The Villa at San Mateo promotes the full spectrum of holistic wellness advocated by Active Aging Week. From group exercise classes to support groups, cultural events and many opportunities for social interaction, our community is committed to supporting the multiple dimensions of wellness that contribute to a vibrant lifestyle.

The Villa at San Mateo offers a variety of amenities and services to support active aging, including areas for outdoor barbeques, a seasonally heated indoor swimming pool, coffee and movie lounge, game room, and fitness center. To help residents remain socially and intellectually engaged, we offer numerous activities like resident happy hours, fitness classes, ice cream socials and games.

As a provider of activities that promote a healthy lifestyle — including fitness classes and weekly water aerobics — our community has also become a registered active aging host site to share positive messages about wellness. A primary goal for host sites is to help enable as many older adults as possible to pursue wellness in a safe and welcoming atmosphere.

At The Villa at San Mateo, we look forward to continuing to encourage active aging of the mind, body and spirit among our residents and the greater community.
